Many of us like to have nice quotes in our signatures, not just a credit for our avatar.
Sometimes we change that quote after a while, when we find another that we prefer or one that is especially appropriate for a given situation.

This is a place where we can post our signature quotes so that they can be saved for posterity even after we have changed them. If you like, you can also write some more about the background for the quote and something about why you chose it.

If you change it, then come back and post another!

I'll start with my own current one:
Quote:
Nai tengwestie nóle kalyuva kuilelya

which is said to mean
'May the study of Language illuminate your life'
I found it on http://www.elvish.org/articles/LRH.html,
a page maintained by Carl F. Hostetter.

Because I like linguistics. Very Happy

Well, as I've stated somewhere else, the Athrabeth is my favorite work by Tolkien. That said, it's hard to find a good quote from it. I was reading it for the upteenth time a week or so ago and came across this quote that I'd read tons of times, but it had never struck me how beautiful it was. It touches me somehow - I think because so many of my friends are online and I only know them through 'words' - either spoken on the phone or typed online, and also because it makes me remember all the deep late night conversations and bearing of souls that I've had with those I care about in real life.

Kind of deep, I guess, but it just touched me. Smile

Tolkien, in UT, wrote:
"But behold!" said he, "in the armour of Fate (as the Children of Earth name it) there is ever a rift, and in the walls of Doom a breach, until the full-making, which ye call the End. So it shall be while I endure, a secret voice that gainsayeth, and a light where darkness was decreed."

Well, I chose this quote because I consider it as being a wonderfull sentence on free will and freedom, and for its vocal theme. And I like Ulmo Cool

Quote:
Do you hear the people sing,
lost in the valley of the night?
It is the music of a people
who are climbing to the light.
For the wretched of the earth
there is a flame that never dies.
Even the darkest night will end
and the sun will rise!

This is from the finale of Les Mis, rather than anything Tolkien wrote, but to me it has always sounded like something the Edain might have sung, marching into battle during the First age. It just fits so very perfectly.

36 times? Shocked Where? Does it just run continously over there?
I've only seen the movie version once and listened to the soundtrack till I can recite half of it from memory...

In 2000 and 2001, I kind of followed the tour with some friends of mine. Not exactly 'followed', but we went to it all over the country. I've seen it in New Orleans, Philadelphia, Greenville, North Carolina, Florida, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois...etc. etc.

Smile Wonderful story.

I'm more or less over my obsession now, but I still have the entire soundtrack memorized. Wink

That's crazy, and sounds ridiculously fun. Very Happy I did read most of the book, it's one of those rare instances where I found the adaptation to be better than the original. It's a good story, but to my mind it really needs the music to add that extra emotional punch that really drives the theme home.
